At Box Hill South Pre School we aim to have the whole kindergarten environment well prepared and ready before the session begins. Within the session our children will have various opportunities to play, create and explore both indoors and outdoors using the various open-ended activities and materials available to them in the program. Our activities vary within each group to cater for individual needs and whole group learning. Indoor activities include painting of all kinds, pasting and 3D construction, drawing, dramatic play experiences, block building, sculpting with clay, making and playing with play dough, library corner and reading books, building with manipulative equipment such as duplo and lego, a variety of sensory experiences, dancing, singing, story time, discussion groups, and games of all kinds. Our flexible sessions are not beholden to a schedule, but work to meet the needs of all our children in our groups. They may change from time to time depending on the weather, the time of the year and most importantly the dynamics of the groups. |
Our Playground is large and shady with many opportunities for our children to explore the various spaces available to them and enjoy all sorts of outdoor activities. Our children participate in climbing of all kinds, swinging, kicking balls, running, water play activities, digging in the dirt-pit, building with outdoor-blocks, carpentry and dramatic play. Our sandpit has been the scene of treasure hunts, dinosaur bone explorations, cooking sessions and digging and our cubby house enjoys the pleasure of gatherings and ?re-building?. Our fruit trees and vegetable patch are looked after by our little green thumbs and are watered from our water tank. Our amphitheatre has been the scene of various activities, such as, story time, music, dancing, dramatic play experiences, singing, lunch-time conversations and used as an outdoor art-room. |

Allergies and Children's Well Being Box Hill South Pre School has a strict NO NUTS and NUT PRODUCTS policy. All our teachers and assistants keep up to date with their anaphylaxis training. We also have an Asthma Action Plan and a NO HAT NO PLAY sun smart policy. |
Parent/Teacher Communication Our teachers communicate with parents in a number of ways. Personally, by phone, email, general notices, posters and newsletters. Programs for the children are created by our teachers and are displayed on the noticeboard outside the noticeboard outside the kinder-room doors. We appreciate extra information about the children that may help our teachers understand them better. Even the most unimportant things can be of interest and help with planning for the children - family happenings, favourite toys, happy or worrying experiences, likes or dislikes etc. We aim for the children's experience at Box Hill South Pre School to be a rewarding one for all the family. Our teachers have an open-door policy and are more than happy to meet with parents to discuss individual children's progress informally at drop off/pick up or in a formal meeting upon request. |
Events and Celebrations At Box Hill South Pre School there are many special experiences throughout the year involving our children, parents/carers, teachers and the wider community. Some are planned well ahead and others are of a more spontaneous nature. We enrich our program with carefully selected performers or incursions/excursions. Music, dance, drama, wild life, a visit from the ambulance or police etc are all possibilities! We usually celebrate special events such as Mothers Day and Fathers Day and other special days as decided by our teacher with the overall program aims in mind. Please remember every year is different! All these experiences are designed to add to the richness of our program, are an important part of learning and enhance our children's experience at Box Hill South Pre School. |
