Parent Participation The children and staff love to have parents and other special people spend our sessions with us at Box Hill South Pre School - playing with us, reading a story or two, helping with snack time and generally assisting during the sessions. Maybe you could share a special talent you have with the children. We invite parents to come along and share their skills and interests with us. It might be playing a musical instrument, cooking, ballet, handicrafts, pottery, art, dance, gardening skills, a special job in the community etc. We have had paramedics, musicians, even watched a baby have a bath! Children love to share their lives with their friends at kindergarten. A kinder duty roster is made available each term for parents/carers to put their name down for their turn as session helper. Maintenance Days Each family is expected to attend one rostered weekend maintenance day each year. These are held once a term or as needed for special occasions. The Kinder Support levy is refunded to those families who have participated. The maintenance days are an integral part of maintaining the property and equipment, and creating a clean, safe and beautiful environment for the children. The roster is drawn up at the commencement of the kindergarten year, allocating one morning on a weekend per term (usually alternating Saturday and Sunday mornings), or more as required, to maintain the property and equipment. The children are also welcome to attend. If you cannot attend a maintenance day, and would like your Kinder Supportlevy refunded, you can ask to be allocated a special task by our teachers or maintenance officers. |
Newsletters Newsletters and notices keep you informed about what is happening at the kinder. The newsletter is circulated in the second last week of each term, with diary dates for social and fundraising activities, special sessions and kinder occasions. Our teachers also write a kinder group report outlining what the children have experienced and learned throughout the term. Social Events At least once a term the Social/Fundraising group representatives hold kinder group catch-up for parents and carers to gather and get to know each other while the children attend their kinder session. Other social events that are held are during the year are the Welcome to Kinder picnic and the Christmas picnic, and in between you might be invited to a movie night or dinner, a fun filled day at Box Hill Miniature Railway for the whole family, a picnic at a local park, and more! |
Fundraising Box Hill South Pre School is a not-for-profit organization and as such relies on fundraising events and activities to raise funds to support our program and provide new and updated facilities for the children. We see our kindergarten as being part of the local community and as such we invite local businesses, retailers and kinder families to sponsor our fundraising efforts. We, in turn, support our sponsors by advertising their businesses to our kinder community. Our major social and fundraising event for the year is the trivia night, a fun-filled event that has become an annual tradition. It's a great opportunity to mingle with other parents/carers and have fun while raising funds. We also have Customer Loyalty programs with Aussie Farmers Direct, ToyWorld Forest Hill, and Wattle Park Chemist - simply let them know you are from Box Hill South Pre School when making a purchase and a certain percentage will go towards our kinder. There are many ways to support the kinder. The Social and Fundraising team keep families informed of up-coming events via notices and reminders in our kinder group pockets.

Parent Information Sessions Throughout the year at Box Hill South Pre School we endeavour to provide parents opportunities to learn more about your child's pre school experience and what to expect during the kinder years at Box Hill South Pre School. Kathy Walker has been a regular speaker (as well as a past student of Box Hill South Pre School!). If you have any suggestions for talks or sessions you would to attend at our kinder, please speak to one of our teachers or a committee member. We are always open to ideas.
