Events and Celebrations

At Box Hill South Pre School there are many special experiences throughout the year involving our children, parents/carers, teachers and the wider community. Some are planned well ahead and others are of a more spontaneous nature.

We enrich our program with carefully selected performers or incursions/excursions. Music, dance, drama, wild life, a visit from the ambulance or police etc are all possibilities!

We usually celebrate special events such as Mother's Day, Father's Day and other special days as decided by our teachers with the overall program aims in mind.

All of these experiences are designed to add to the richness of our program, are an important part of learning and enhance our children's experience at Box Hill South Pre School.

Our Playground

We are very fortunate to have a massive outdoor playground that is well shaded and offers many exciting spaces and activities for our children to explore! Having recently been redeveloped, the play space now has a wonderful sensory garden including a dry river bed, foot bridge, forest, natural sand pit, new planter boxes, and new amphitheatre plus so much more!

Popular outdoor activities include:
  • climbing of all kinds
  • swinging and kicking balls
  • running along the paths through the forest
  • water play, including trickling water along the riverbed
  • digging in the sand pit and dirt pit
  • building with outdoor blocks
  • carpentry
  • dramatic play
Our sandpit has been the scene of treasure hunts, dinosaur bone explorations, cooking sessions and digging and our newly refurbished cabin enjoys the pleasure of gatherings and re-building.

Our amphitheatre has been the scene of various activities, such as, story time, music, dancing, dramatic play experiences, singing, lunch-time conversations and used as an outdoor art-room.

Our fruit trees and planter boxes are looked after by our little green thumbs and are watered from our water tank.

Allergies and Children's Well Being

Parent / Teacher Communication

Our teachers communicate with parents in a number of ways. Personally, by phone, email, general notices, posters and newsletters.

Programs for the children are created by our teachers and are displayed in the playroom.

We appreciate extra information about the children that may help our teachers understand them better. Even the most unimportant things can be of interest and help with planning for the children - family happenings, favourite toys, happy or worrying experiences, likes or dislikes etc.

We aim for the children's experience at Box Hill South Pre School to be a rewarding one for all the family. Our teachers have an open-door policy and are more than happy to meet with parents to discuss individual children's progress informally at drop off/pick up or in a formal meeting upon request.
